How to Make Pumpkin Juice
If you are lucky to grow pumpkins yourself, you can easily pick them from your vine! Another way to get your fresh pumpkins is to go to a pumpkin farm and pick them straight from the vine. The best time is September to the end of October. You can also buy the pumpkins from a store, of course.
Choose a pumpkin that has consistent coloring throughout. Also look for the stem: A green stem indicates a freshly harvested pumpkin.
Wash the pumpkin and cut the top and bottom off. Keep the cuts close to the stem and core to waste as little of the pumpkin as possible.
Slice the pumpkin width-wise if it is long and skinny, or from top to bottom if it is fat.
Cut the pieces of the pumpkin to size according to the juicer's instructions. Heavy-duty juicers can tolerate a half a pumpkin at a time and even a whole pumpkin depending on how large it is.
For smaller scale juicers, cut the pumpkin into many cubes or slices that meet the manufacturer's guidelines. With the Breville Juice Fountain Elite 800-JEXL you can juice a big piece of pumpkin, without slicing it or cut it up.
Scoop up any seeds that have fallen during cutting and place them into the juicer as well. Note, that not all juicers can tolerate pumpkin rind and seeds.
When unsure of the capacity of the juicer, begin with a small slice of pumpkin with skin and seeds.
Harry Potter Pumpkin Juice
This juice is a hit among children. You just need:
- a piece of banana
- 3 tbsp orange juice
- 3 tbsp pumpkin puree
- 2/3 cup water
- a pinch of cinnamon
- And, best of all, one scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you can’t stand anything lactose, try soy yogurt. You just need to mix all of them in a Kitchen Aid Blender.
Another great pumpkin juice recipe:
- juice of one small "pie" pumpkin
- 1/3 C filtered water
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp local raw honey
Juice the pumpkin in your juicer (save the pulp and seeds to use in some other recipes). Pour fresh juice into a blender. Add spices, honey, and blend. Dilute to taste with water. Chill or serve immediately.
You can also add apple juice to the freshly squeezed pumpkin juice. Apple juice helps sweeten the recipe. Use equal parts of pumpkin juice and apple juice. If you squeeze 3 cups of pumpkin juice, add 3 cups of apple juice.
Pour a little bit of honey into the juice mixture. Honey adds even more sweetness, and flavor. Enjoy!
